Which cleaning cloth is right for me?

Which cleaning cloth is right for me?

Choosing the right cleaning cloth isn’t rocket science. It is however something that requires a certain amount of thought before committing to a pile of rags that don’t fully serve your purpose. Who wants surplus boxes and rolls hogging valuable space in the workshop before more than likely ending up in the bin?

Basically, which product you choose boils down to needs, budget and what sits within your range that will do the job well.

Some products are universal, like washroom supplies and dishcloths, while others are highly specialised, used primarily in industries such as manufacturing and engineering.

It’s worth taking a look at the various properties of each potential cloth, rag, roll and wipe before deciding which one will serve you best. In short, what we’re saying is that you may decide you’ve been spending too much when a cheaper product will do the trick just as well. Or, you might opt to upgrade to something a little more costly and effective.

So ask yourself, what are you looking to achieve in your workplace or home?

Cleaning cloths

Everyone has their preference when it comes to general cleaning cloths. A favoured dust buster or dirt dispenser. For some, it’s microfibre. For others it’s Terry towel that takes precedence over everything else. A chunky texture to easily grip whilst really getting to work on any stubborn stain or spillage.

The impressive absorbency and strength of this product make it hugely popular, not to mention the fact these cloths are washable and reusable. White cotton sheeting, t-shirt cloths and roller towel have much the same properties, without the heavy duty texture.

These ‘second life’ products are highly versatile but if space is at a premium there are other options to consider such as paper wipes, microfibre and rolls in dispenser boxes. Weigh up the strength and absorbency of each to ensure suitability.

Polishing cloths

Soft cotton cloths and microfibres have long been used for polishing metal and glass, enabling a streak free finish. These might be sufficient for use in the home, but if you work in a business which requires more specialist attention to polishing, for example furniture, or machinery, there are alternative non-woven lint free wipes and rolls available.

Fibre wipe cloths, meltblown roll and Tork polishing cloths all have properties tailored to suit the more technical tasks.
