What are the differences between textile cleaning cloths and lint free cloths?
Textile cloths are more widely recognisable as "rags". Although this suggests an ex-clothing product, the vast majority of our cleaning cloths are ex-hotel laundry. In effect they are repurposed products.
Lint free cloths are manufactured solely for wiping cloth purposes. As they are less bulky than textile cleaning cloths you will get more individual cloths per kilogram and therefore better value for money with a lint free product. As non woven technology improves, lint free cloths are gradually looking and feeling more like textile cloths.
What does ‘lint free’ mean?
The term lint free cloth is a common name for cloths made from non-woven fabric. This is effectively a man-made material that is manufactured from a sheet of fibres, bonded together into a web by heat. After this, the sheet material is rolled in large mill rolls then it is converted into a variety of products. Fibres such as polyester, polypropylene and viscose are widely used in non-woven products and often combined with wood-pulp when manufacturing wiping cloths.
Simply put, lint free means that no fibres get left behind on surfaces when wiping or polishing. This is handy when cleaning glass or metal for example. It is also useful in working or home environments where cleanliness is critical.
Where do textile cleaning cloths come from?
Most of our textile cloths are from UK based commercial laundries. The majority of the materials are ex-hotel rental and once they are damaged or if they fail quality control, they are rejected. Rather than being sent to landfill/incineration, they are re-routed into the cleaning cloth market.
